Most people have assumptions and beliefs about the answer to this question that is loaded with fear and doubt, resulting in an inability to open to intuition in a way that creates a direct relationship with that loving wisdom, with the gentle and occasionally harsh guidance system that is with you 24/7.

Angels are non-denominational and omni-present beings that come to our intuition in very subtle forms at first (syncronicities, chance meetings, a feeling in our body) and will make their presence more known to our 5 senses the more we begin to deny the truth or reality of what serves us best at any given moment (like that expression, I needed to be knocked over the head by a 2 by 4). Carl Jung says what doesn’t come to you as destiny will come to you as fate – that is made real with the angels assistance!

Mostly though, angels come to our intuition when they are asked – they LOVE to go to work for us (and play for us – they are very lighthearted, seeing the illusions of this world). The first step in developing your intuition and connection with these beautiful beings is to ask to sense their presence – and then be very aware in your inner eye, ear, feeling body, and “gut feelings” as they begin to make themselves known.

One helpful way to begin is to work with your guardian angel/angels, and then later develop relationships with the archangels, who assist us with various matters of relationship, health, work, life purpose, etc. Meditation and deep relaxation techniques are very helpful in connecting with your guardian angel – remembering to ask to have his/her presence shown to you in a way that you will recognize through your 5 senses (each outer sense is accompanied by an inner sense that develops as you strengthen your outer senses – ie. inner seeing is heightened as you visually notice more of your outside environment.)

I appreciate Lady Gaga’s song “Right Track” because it holds each of us in the light of intentional creation – that we were born on the right track, and that there is value in every experience and every choice that we make. Still, most women and men that I counsel would rather push that aside in favor of dissolving uncertainty and moving forward with courage and conviction.

Here’s some tips to answer your question or to carve out the time and space to receive intuitive guidance regarding your decision.

1. Can you be in the space of liminality without pushing it away? That is, can you live in uncertainty and be okay with it; as you fight the feeling or dismiss the reality of uncertainty, your guidance  is minimized and your control and fears maximized. Who ever said we had to have everything figured out all of the time? (Maybe well meaning high school teachers and anxious parents?)

2. Look for messages within – can you hear a voice that may sound like your own thought but surprises you with the message or how the message is communicated? Do you see any images within your inner eye that speak symbolically to your question?Do you feel in your body a warm tingling sensation encouraging you to proceed or a pain or discomfort that seems to be warning you? These are indications of Divine guidance assisting you in answering your question.

3. Our guidance system works 24/7 – so pay attention to your dreams as much as your waking hours. Explore journalling about dreams and inner visions that are there to help assist you in “right track” responses.

4. Have a heightened awareness of serendipitious circumstances or syncronicities. These all play a large role in affirming your choices (made in your mind or in the tangible world) or gently bringing you to a choice that serves you more.

5. Most people who ask this question have some big fears attached to beliefs about themselves that aren’t so helpful. Examine fears that keep you stuck in patterns of perfection and the need to do things right the first time, or the need to have a reward at the end of the road. Surrendering to step by step guidance that is always available to you is necessary in learning to trust that you are on the “right track”.

6. Have fun, play and create. I stress this to my clients all the time because it is a form of surrender that opens their mind and heart to different ways of being; while fears settle down, the enjoyment of life and steps toward purposeful living go way up.

Imagine That....

It’s just a few days into the New Year and I am working on my intentions for 2012. As I begin this process, I’m so tempted to just list my reasonable goals and my wild dreams, and throw in a few pictures, and that will be the end of that. Finished for the year! Get on with the life of chasing this and that that I’ve set in stone for the next 12 months. That’s normally how I’d go about this process. But this year, after having worked with so many people on developing their intuition and becoming increasingly sensitive to the wisdom of the Divine within, I am hard pressed to be remotely excited about the old ways of approaching intentions and goal setting. This year, I am sitting quietly, meditating, and allowing what needs to come forth, what is eager to be revealed, from the depths of my inner wisdom, from the often quiet voice within. It is this allowing and receiving that blossoms the passionate possibilities and the vital energy to go forth into the New Year, to see the bright unfolding of an intention. To hold the vision in the timelessness of now. Imagine that…

I always say that the greatest block to intuition is a heart that is closed, full of fear, and unable to open to others. In Circle, women’s hearts blossom open and they feel, often for the first time, at home in a “sea of love.” (Sound sappy? When you actually experience it, there are no words to describe how this opening transfers into your day, your week – it shifts body, mind and spirit to encompass a deep inner wisdom and calm as the heart flourishes.)

Intuition is ignited in an open heart – the flame can breathe, just like the woman, when like-hearted, like-spirited and supportive souls are on the journey right along with her. I am blessed to witness this miracle in our intuitive circles.

If you are wanting to communicate with a loved one who has passed over, begin to open your heart to the possibility that you can do this as easily as if he/she was sitting in front of you. In fact, practice sitting at your kitchen table, and using your third eye (inner sight) to picture your loved one sitting in the chair across from you. Visualize every detail of his or her face, body, clothes, hair, skin, and then allow the image to begin to move, talk, have facial gestures… all without trying to control the image. Then ask the image a question – if your loved one is able and willing to respond at that moment in time, you will see that he/she will begin to communicate – either verbally or through gestures, showing you something, or giving you an entirely new image upon which to contemplate. Do this over the course of one week, once a day, when you are relaxed and your heart is open.

I have always wondered if the physical heart is the place from which the soul enters into this life form. I have a feeling the heart is the meeting point between humanity and divinity – the place where we merge into the great oneness of All There Is.

I read once in a Heart Math publication that to this day, no one knows what makes the heart start beating. Is it the soul entering the body? And another fascinating thing is that the heart develops before the brain so there is nothing telling the heart to “do its thing.”

If in the Chakras, the heart is the point at which we leave the lower, ego-based energies, then it could also be the point at which our divinity connects to our humanity.
